What is C4P?

C4P is a supporting organisation for those who want to stand for election to the city council as independent candidates. It’s focused on encouraging more of us to play a part in making our city a better place. We believe that everyone has something valuable to contribute to their neighbourhoods and that democracy is fundamentally about people being in control of where they live.

To this end, we believe it is necessary to elect independent political representatives, people who reflect the needs of the communities they come from and are free to pursue them, unlike national party members (Conservative, Labour, Liberal) who are too often constrained by their party’s policies and personal political ambitions.

How does it work?

C4P is a registered political party, but not in the conventional sense: there is no manifesto or whip. It’s an umbrella organisation for true independents who have the interests of their constituents at heart. Our mission is to support their campaigns by hosting conversations with the public and combining our efforts with theirs in a who share our values and ways of working.

What are those values?

Independence

We will each make up our own mind about every issue without reference to a shared dogma or ideology.

Integrity

Decisions will be made in an open and understandable manner. Information will be made available, even when we make mistakes, and everyone will have the opportunity to influence decisions.

Positivity

We will not just describe problems, we will look for solutions by involving others in discussion.

Creativity

Use new, or borrowed, ideas from within the group and the wider community to refresh what we do and how we do it.

Respect

Understand that everyone has an equal voice and is worth listening to.
